Most fan art creators are thrilled to share their work. However, if you fail to ask their permission or credit them, expect us to delete your art immediately.
Lawsuits do happen over this issue.
In fact, many of the best pieces of fanart are created by those who are professional artists in real life. Thus, they will not sit by while their artwork is used without permission, and they often do have lawyers at their disposal due to their real life work. Do not be naive enough to think you can get away with using someone else's art without being caught, as the fanfic community is very small. Please do not put Polar Attraction in jeopardy of being named on a law suit targeting you and anyone who hosts your artwork.
Please read and follow the rules posted below as they will be strictly enforced:
1. Size Does Matter:
a) The maximum size banner that this board will allow you to post is 550 pixels per inch wide x 500 pixels per inch high.
b) Maximum size for signature banners is 300 pixels per inch wide x 300 pixels per inch high or 500 pixels per inch wide x 150 pixels per inch high. The maximum number of signature banners allowed to be posted is two.
c) The maximum size for avis (avatars aka icons) is 150 pixels per inch wide x 150 pixels per inch high.
2. Public Domain vs. Copywritten or Personal Images: When creating your own fanart, do not use pictures that are not public domain unless you have permission in writing. If you aren't sure if it is okay to use a photo, please make your best effort (and save your emails documenting this effort) to contact the photographer, creator or web site owner to ask permission.
3. Posting Others' Fanart: If you want to post someone else's artwork on your thread or on a separate web site, ask the artist first.
4. Incorporating Others' Fanart into your own: If you want to use someone else's manip, banner or avi in creating your own fanart, ask the artist first. Any usage of someone else's artwork without their permission or without crediting the artist will be considered theft and will be dealt with severely unless cleared by an admin first. (I.e., if you cannot locate or reach the original artist - ask and admin for assistance or permission to go ahead with the inclusion.)
5. Posting fanart in the Multimedia Forum: When you display your own original fanart and avis at PA in the multimedia forum, you must include a note stating whether or not others may use the art, and if so, what are the limitations? For example, "You may use this fanart for an avi or banner on this site, but please let me know before using it on another website" or "Please email me before incorporating my artwork into your banners or avis."
